About Us

Junction Auto Services has been in Alexandra since 1999. It was originally located on Centennial Avenue before moving up to Boundary Road in 2003 where two years later, current owners Jackie and Tony Smith took over the reins. Having outgrown that facility, in April 2021 another big move took place to 65 Centennial Avenue where a larger workshop and showroom has given them space to expand.

Jackie and Tony live in Clyde and have two daughters. Originally both from Southland, they have called Central Otago home since 1996 and can't imagine living anywhere else! As a family, the Smith's enjoy the outdoors, 4-wheel driving, camping boating, anything that involves a little adrenaline and getting away from the hustle and bustle of town.

Tony has been tinkering around with vehicles since he was a teenager and went straight from school into training to be an Automotive Technician. Now with nearly 40 years’ experience under his belt,
he is not only A grade qualified, but extremely experienced in all aspect of the trade. He has discovered a love for 4-wheel driving and is really in his happy place up the back of beyond taking in the magnificent scenery that can sometimes only be accessed with a set of big tires and some mud chucking. Tony has immersed himself in all that is 4-wheel driving and is the go-to person for any questions on the best gear to kit out your truck with loads of choices to fit all levels of experience, or even if you want suggestions on places to go - he is your man!

Jackie has always been involved in customer service or office management for most of her working life and whilst working most of her day at the local Council, she takes care of making sure things are ticking along in the background and the making sure the team have everything they need to make the place hum.

Steve Hills has been with Junction Auto Services since 1999. He has more than 40 years in the industry and really knows his stuff! He may be an Aussie by birth, but as an avid 4-wheel drive enthusiast, he has probably seen more of our local landscape than many who were born here. Steve and his wife have two sons and he loves model train making, is a Scout Leader and he loves to tinker with anything and everything that has an engine!

Quentin Annan or ‘Q’ as he is called has been with the team since 2018 but he is certainly not new to cars. He started in the trade in 1979, had a break truck driving for few years and has been back on the tools since. Q was born and breed in Central Otago and he and his wife have two children and are very proud Grandparents. Q is a keen rower and mountain biker and you will find him on the lake most mornings, all year round. They are both keen caravanners taking lots of trips to the McKenzie country, especially if there is a rowing event on.

Kerry Earland has been the steady rock in the office since 2010 and as Office Manager she keeps the operation running like a finely oiled machine. Kerry keeps the team in line and has established fabulous relationships with our regular customers. Kerry, with her husband, has three daughters. She juggles community committees and keeps up with her twins' sports.

Clyde Jeffery joined the team one day a week from the time he was at Dunstan High School. He started his apprenticeship in January 2022 and as well as proving his worth in the workshop he was a bit of an apprentice superstar, so much so, that he completed his apprenticeship in just two years and two months instead of the normal four years! Clyde comes from Roxburgh and with help of his dad has been tinkering with motors from early age. The workshop team are influencing Clyde on the finer points of 4WDing and what improvements are needed on his truck - which will keep Clyde poor financially but will enrich his mind.

Thiranga Ranaweerage or ‘T’ as he prefers to be called, has come all the way down from Auckland where he ran his own successful automotive business, specialising in transmissions. T, his lovely wife and two kids are originally from Sri Lanka but have called New Zealand home for more than 16 years. T has always had a passion for anything automotive and has 30+ years of experience in the industry and certainly knows his stuff. It took about five minutes for us to feel like T had been a part of the Junction family for years!

Sue Allan and her bubbly personality were another welcome addition to the team when she joined us in 2022 as Office Administrator. Her friendly personality goes hand in hand with her dedication and strong admin skills. Sue likes to keep the team on their toes with her banter. Along with her husband Ronald, Sue enjoys the rural life with their menagerie and getting out with her horses.

Wayne is the newest member of the team having moved up from Invercargill in late 2023 with his wife Sue. Wayne has spent the last 17 years as Parts Manager at a parts supply company and Wayne and his wife have been holidaying in Alexandra for 20 years and decided to finally make the move up here permanent and we are certainly happy they did. We have been working with Wayne for 17 years as a supplier colleague so the transition to employee was super smooth and we are enjoying his good humour and incredible parts knowledge. Wayne is a total cycling junkie and races home each night after work to get out on the tracks.
